The North Carolina Sophomore Writing Assessment
The writing test is used to assess the ability of sophomores to write in one of two modes, definition or cause-effect.
Definition: A student defines an abstract term like social justice or individuality.
Cause-Effect: A student explains the causes or the effects of a particular decision or action, like requiring students to pass all classes in order to play a sport.
